What We Believe

Presbyterianism is a form of Christianity.  The term Presbyterian comes from the greek word presbuteros which means “elder”.  Elders are those chosen, or elected, to govern the church in a democratic fashion.

Presbyterians, as a Christian group, believe in:

  • God as creator of the universe

  • Christ as the incarnation of God on earth

  • The Holy Spirit as God’s presence in the world and in the believer

  • The church as a company of Christ’s followers

  • Forgiveness of sins made possible by the crucifixion of Christ

  • Life everlasting as revealed through the resurrection of Jesus

  • The Bible as the inspired Word of God.

Presbyterians look  to the Bible for inspiration and guidance in their daily lives.

The Presbyterian Church also has a Book of Creeds and Confessions which are expression of our faith at different times in history.  In this book you will find:

  • The Apostles’ Creed

  • The Nicene Creed

  • The Scots Confession

  • The Heidelberg Confession

  • The Second Helvetic Cofnession

  • The Westminster Confession

  • The Westminster Larger Catechism

  • The Westminster Shorter Catechism

  • The Barmen Declaration

  • The Confession of 1967

  • A Brief Statement of Faith
