After last evenings service one person said to me, “Thanks for making us all cry again.”  She was referring to the song “Watch the Lamb” which I sang in the dark at the end of the service.  It is a very moving song about the crucifixion of Christ from the perspective of the man who carried his cross. 

I was thinking about that comment, and about the song this morning. At the end of the song the man’s two sons are crying and they say, “Daddy, Daddy, What have we seen here?  There’s so much we don’t understand.”   As we ponder the events of Good Friday it is certainly hard to understand.  In John 3:16 it says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son…”  If we put “gave his son” in the context of Good Friday it really shows how much God loved us.  It brings to mind a couple old hymns.  “What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss to bear the dreadful curse for my soul.”  And,  “Amazing love! how can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me.”  If we really look at the events of Good Friday we may well ask of God, “Father, Father (or daddy, daddy) what have we seen here?  There’s so much we don’t understand.

This evening will be another opportunity to look and try to comprehend the wondrous love of God.  The Community Good Friday service is at the United Methodist Church at 7:00. 

Meanwhile allow God to hold you in the palm of His hands as you contemplate his love.
