Pastoral Ponderings

Lectionary Readings

        Jeremiah 20: 7 - 13; Psalm 69: 7 - 18;
        Romans 6: 1b - 11; Matthew 10: 24 - 39

In the Gospel lesson there are two key themes or phrases which I think I will be focusing on this week.

  1. "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?  Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.  And even the hairs of your head are all counted.  So do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows."
  2. Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.

It seems that if we lose our life into God, then we truly find life.  When we entrust ourselves totally to God, knowing we are more valuable than many sparrows, then we can live with confidence.

One member of our congregation who spends part of the year in warmer a warmer climate attends a church that uses a motto: "Laugh often - Fear not".  This certainly can be a good theme for our lives as we entrust ourselves to God.
